“This Quiet Home” -A Fitting Track For A Setting We Are Seeing More in Video Games

About this song: Added 7/19/2020|120 bpm|Genre: Piano/Electronic

Light Draws in as the evening sun peers over aging trees. It gives off a heavenly glow as the light is welcomed inside by a set of open windows that provides you that gentle breeze. Nature’s calming exhale aerates the room as sheer curtains slow dance and mimic one another. The golden light illuminates undisturbed objects and keepsakes of a favored past. This sanctuary of memorabilia and framed happy moments bring peace and warmth to what would be just weary and dated walls. You slowly look through displayed items that hold some value to those who have carefully balanced them next to each other knowing that each has their own story to tell. When browsing through smiles of young faces in front of places far away, it gives you a glimpse of how it would feel to be there. Its a serene moment and observation one could experience when taking in a setting as still and quiet as a humble abode.

The aimless waltz inside a room gives way to stories and chapters revealed by the possessions people hold onto. It makes rooms more than just four walls and it makes a home more than just a house. The impressive detail and focus game developers can put towards what could be otherwise a simple background or setting, actually shows the interesting process of what the creators can do to make the player believe that its more than just a rendered space for a character to move in.

The Last of Us Part II is a prime example of such focus and beauty instead of what could have been an overlooked area. And games like this are increasingly finding moments where you want to make the time to really take in your surroundings. I’m finding the walk through of character’s homes especially fascinating. That being said, it inspired me to re-imagine a situation just like that and interpret what I think its song would sound like. I loved it!

I’m very happy to share, “This Quiet Home” as my version to a reflective moment of going through a Hall of Memories or that room that may be just full of stuff but is actually apart of you. I hope you enjoyed this dramatic demonstration as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Thanks,

-M.
